Dan Krause gives his clients financial privacy, security, asset protection and peace of mind. His years of experience in the courts, continuous study, and countless hours of two-finger typing in front of a glowing screen have created the Estate Planning Law Specialist* you see today. A Wisconsin native who founded Krause Donovan Estate Law Partners, LLC in 2000, Dan has been in the US Army, Wisconsin Army National Guard and is currently a retired Major from the US Army Reserves JAG Corps. He is also a veteran of the US Peace Corps, having served 2 years in Kenya as a teacher and secondary school administrator.

Dan and his law partner, Nelson Donovan wrote the book Estate Planning in Wisconsin: Privacy, Protection and Taking Control, published in 2017. It is an easy-to-understand primer for non-experts, covering the basics of estate planning, including wills, trusts and powers of attorney.

Dan received his law degree from New York University School of Law on a scholarship. NYU Law is ranked in the top handful of law schools in the country, and consistently ranked #1 in tax law. He is licensed to practice law in Wisconsin and Minnesota as well as both of Wisconsin’s federal district courts and a number of tribal courts. He has successfully litigated many cases, including contested trusts and wills, and designed and administered many hundreds of estate plans.

After helping clients in many probate cases through the years, Dan knows the importance of avoiding this court hassle when possible. Keeping the transfer of assets easy, private and secure using living trust planning is one way Dan finds satisfaction.

Another great joy of Dan’s life is helping people avoid losing their assets in potential litigation and avoiding the devastating cost of nursing care. Asset protection techniques are always evolving and Dan studies hard to keep his clients ahead of the creditors and predators.

*Dan is certified by The Estate Law Specialist Board, Inc., an ABA-accredited, attorney-run subsidiary of the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils. He is one of only nine EPLS certified attorneys in Wisconsin today.
